Gas Leak May Have Sparked Garage Fire At Oakland Home
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Firefighters extinguished a garage fire involving two vehicles Sunday evening in Oakland, close to the Piedmont border, an Oakland Fire Department battalion chief said.
The first report of the fire came in at 4:50 p.m. at 61 Marr Ave. where firefighters found a fully involved garage fire, Battalion Chief Geoff Hunter said.
The fire extended slightly into the house and into the attic, he said.
The garage was a total loss and the damage from the fire was estimated at $150,000.
Fire investigators believe the fire started in the garage but the location and cause are under investigation, Hunter said.
Firefighters discovered a gas leak on the property and firefighters are not sure whether the fire caused the leak, according to Hunter.
A PG&E crew responded to the scene.
The fire was brought under control at 5:10 p.m.
Two units from the Piedmont Fire Department assisted Oakland firefighters, Hunter said.
