Futuristic Oakland/Berkeley Hills Mansion Sells For Record $20.5 Million

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- The most expensive home ever sold in Alameda County has been purchased for $20.5 million dollars, according to published reports.

The 14,000-square-foot mansion on Devon Way in the Oakland/Berkeley Hills is known as the Felton Estate, built in 1996-1999 for business software entrepreneur Robert Felton.

The home's futuristic architecture was inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, according to the listing agents.

The four-bedroom, dual-level palace has five full baths, six half baths, and seven fireplace manors, along with panoramic views of the Bay Area.

It also has a 2,000 square foot living room, gym, infinity pool, art gallery, wine cellar with tasting room, vineyard, and a 16-car garage.

The buyer's identity was not disclosed, but the listing agent told Curbed San Francisco it is a local buyer.

"Every buyer who looked at this house, save for one, was a local," Carla Buffington of Pacific Union International told Curbed.

The house had been listed for $21 million. Buffington told Curbed she expects the sale to hold its record-breaking status for some time.
