Domestic Battery Suspect Escapes After Police Standoff In Fremont

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- A domestic battery suspect is at large following a standoff that started Saturday morning in Fremont, a police spokeswoman said.

As of 6:18 p.m., 41-year-old Fremont man Thomas Beltran was at large after police entered a home on Darrow Court where the standoff occurred, police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

Police searched the home, a rental unit where Beltran was staying and the surrounding property but did not find him.

Police are asking anyone who sees Beltran to call 911.

Beltran had a warrant out for his arrest on a drug paraphernalia offense.

He is now wanted for domestic battery and being a felon in possession of ammunition, Bosques said.

Beltran, described as 5'10" and 210 pounds, wearing a Raiders jersey, allegedly has a violent criminal history and active warrants, police said.

Officers responded to a call around 9:20 a.m. from a woman who said her boyfriend, a 41-year-old man, had battered her and was still in the residence, according to police.

Officers set up a perimeter and attempted to contact the man since the initial call came in.

Two adjacent houses were evacuated and the Fremont Police SWAT team, tactical medic team, tactical dispatchers and hostage negotiators were called to the residence, police said. As of 7 p.m. residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Paramedics Plus, Fremont Fire, Newark police and San Leandro police were also assisting, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fremont Police Department at (510) 790-6800, Extension 3.
