Late Wednesday night, Fremont police held a news conference but would not explain what led the officer to shoot and kill the suspect.

"That part is still under investigation," said acting Capt. Eric Tang. "We haven't had a chance to interview the officer or review any relevant camera footage at this point, so it's still under investigation."

Police said the shooting victim, who has life threatening injuries, had been transported to a local trauma center.

Investigators were reviewing body cam footage, interviewing officers and collecting evidence, and that another update was expected in 72 hours.
