Frederico Rocha Named New Undersheriff Of San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi has named former interim East Palo Alto police Chief Federico Rocha as his new undersheriff.

The sheriff said that he believes Rocha will bring a unique perspective to the department when he starts in two weeks.

Mirkarimi called Rocha "an innovator."

Rocha was named interim chief of the East Palo Alto police in November after Chief Ron Davis retired. Rocha joined the department in 2010.

Before that he was a U.S. Marshal and manager for the law enforcement coordination unit for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Northern California. He was also an Oakland police officer.

Rocha could not be reached for comment Thursday.

He will be replacing Undersheriff Ellen Brin, who is retiring from the department after almost three decades.
