FOX Acquires KTVU, KICU Television Stations Pending FCC Approval

OAKLAND (KCBS)— Oakland's KTVU Channel 2 is being exchanged in a swap between FOX Television Stations and Cox Media Group (CMG).

In the deal announced Tuesday, two Bay Area stations -- KTVU and KICU -- will be acquired by FOX.

Cox will acquire WHBQ and WFXT located in Boston and Memphis respectively.

"The addition of KTVU and KICU to our portfolio of owned-and-operated stations provides us with a compelling growth opportunity in a top-10 market," said Jack Abernethy, CEO of Fox Television Stations, Inc. "Our stations group will benefit from both the strong demographics of the Bay area market as well as the alignment with our package of sports rights."

CMG's President Bill Hoffman thanked teams at both Bay Area stations for their "outstanding work."

According to a news release, the transaction is subject to FCC and other customary approvals and conditions.

KTVU is already a local Fox television affiliate.
