Toxic Algae Bloom Closes Popular East Bay Lake To Swimmers, Dogs

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Oakland's Lake Temescal will be closed to swimmers through the Fourth of July weekend because of toxic algae blooms.

While the lake gets blue-green algae blooms every summer, new tests shows it to be toxic.

The district also urges dog owners to keep their pets away since algae can be fatal to dogs.

In the meantime, the rest of the park will stay open.

Lake Temescal was closed to swimmers for a little over a week last July for the same reason.
