Founder Of Orthotic Corporation Based In San Rafael Stabbed To Death In Bahamas

BAHAMAS (CBS SF) -- Phillip Vasyli, a podiatrist and the founder of a San Rafael-based orthotic corporation was found stabbed to death Tuesday morning in his home in the Bahamas.

The 59 year-old native Australian was best known for developing an over-the-counter shoe insert called Orthaheel.

Just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, a worker found Visyli dead on the dining room floor of his home in the luxury community of Old Fort Bay, according to the The Daily Telegraph. The gated community is located on New Providence Island.  Police say he'd been stabbed several times and probably died on Monday night.

The Daily Telegraph also reports police have questioned Vasyli's wife Donna as a person of interest and she has retained a lawyer. There have been no arrests.

Vasyli's company, the Vionic Group, employs 85 people at its Marin headquarters. The company was built on Orthaheel's success. It was an industry game changer. Previously, orthotics of this type had only been available with a doctor's prescription but Vasyli's inserts were sold in pharmacies and shoe stores.
