Former State Employee Arraigned For Bringing Loaded Gun, Knives To State Capitol
SACRAMENTO (CBS SF)— A former state employee who is accused of bringing a loaded gun to work at the secretary of state's office last month is facing a misdemeanor charge.
Bryan Thurmond was arraigned Wednesday in Sacramento County Superior Court for possession of a weapon in a state building. He did not enter a plea.
Authorities say the 51-year-old brought a loaded pistol and three knives to a downtown Sacramento office. Security officers found the weapons in a backpack in the men's bathroom Jan. 19.
Court records say Thurmond told police he had problems with female co-workers who said he sent unsolicited messages, but it's unclear why he had the weapons.
The secretary of state's office fired Thurmond and obtained a restraining order against him.
Thurmond's attorney, John Holbus, declined immediate comment.
