Former Stanford Medical Student Accused Of Poisoning Lab Mates

STANFORD (CBS SF) – A former medical student at Stanford University has been charged with four felony counts, after allegedly poisoning fellow students.

According to authorities, the suspect allegedly put paraformaldehyde in the water bottles of lab mates last fall.

The suspect admitted to interfering with research samples, but claimed to be, "not conscious" of the act.

In a police report, the suspect said, "I am truly sorry for what had happened, but I really didn't mean to harm people…it was me crying out for help and I didn't know."

Vice reported that the suspect is a 26-year-old woman. The suspect pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and is no longer a student.

The news comes amid an alleged cheating scandal on the Stanford campus. Last week, the university provost said there was an unusually high number of students accused of cheating.
