Former Monterey County Police Employee Suspected Of Stealing Department Property Arrested

MONTEREY COUNTY (CBS SF) -- A former Marina Police Department employee suspected of stealing property from the department was arrested on Wednesday, police said.

Santos Bautista, 58, was arrested by detectives in his Salinas home at 2:18 p.m. Wednesday, according to police.

Bautista was a community services officer for the Marina Police Department who also allegedly embezzled property from other local agencies, police said.

Earlier this year, police found Bautista had stored multiple items in self-storage lockers, including police uniforms, firefighter "turn-out" gear, radio equipment, vehicle light bars, animal "catch poles," keys and handcuffs.

Bautista was arrested and booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of embezzlement and possession of stolen property, according to police.
