Former Marin Reporter Jason Rezaian Convicted Of Spying In Iran

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Jailed Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian has been convicted by an Iranian court.

The announcement was made about the verdict in Tehran's Revolutionary Court late Sunday.

Rezaian has been imprisoned for more than 14 months on charges that include espionage.

Details about the conviction of the former The Washington Post bureau chief in Tehran remain sketchy.

Rezaian was born and raised in Marin County and has been the Post's correspondent in Tehran since 2012. He has also written for the San Francisco Chronicle among other publications.

According to The Washington post, he "potentially faces a sentence of 20 to 30 years."

An Iranian official said Rezaian is eligible to appeal the conviction within 20 days.
