Former Giants Fan Favorite, Postseason Hero Cody Ross Reportedly Set To Join Athletics
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Former San Francisco Giants player and postseason hero Cody Ross may be joining the Oakland A's, according to a national sports reporter.
The veteran outfielder was placed on waivers last weekend by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports tweeted that the 34-year-old Ross was expected to join the Athletics after clearing waivers. He would help fill the void left by outfielder Coco Crisp who is on the disabled list for the next couple of months.
In 2010, Ross helped lead the Giants to the team's first World Series championship in San Francisco after joining the team as a late-season pickup. He quickly became a fan favorite was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2010 National League Championship Series.
Ross is career .263 hitter and has battled injuries in the latter half of his 10-year career. Besided the Giants and Diamondbacks, Ross has played for the Tigers, Dodgers, Reds, Marlins and Red Sox.
Arizona would be on the hook for most of his $9.5 million salary, with Oakland responsible for paying him the major-league minimum.
