Former Fresno County Animal Shelter Employees File Lawsuit Alleging Mistreatment of Animals

FRESNO (CBS SF)--Two former employees of a Fresno County animal shelter have filed a lawsuit alleging they were fired after complaining about mistreatment of animals.

The Fresno Bee reports the lawsuit filed earlier this month by Virginia Daily and Michael Congdon targets Liberty Animal Control Services.

The suit claims in order to save money, the company didn't use euthanasia medicine and instead let animals die of disease or malnourishment. It also claims dangerous dogs were put together with pacified dogs to encourage fights that ended in the deaths of the weaker animals.

The lawsuit, which also names Fresno County, seeks unspecified damages in excess of $25,000.

It says both Fresno County and Liberty retaliated against Daily and Congdon after they complained about the mistreatment.

Officials with Liberty and the county declined to comment on the suit.
