Family: Former De La Salle Student Who Fell At UNR Frat House Is Alive

RENO (CBS SF) -- The family of a former Concord high school student who fell at the Sigma Nu fraternity house in Reno last Sunday says he has not died.

Despite numerous reports that Ryan Abele passed away, friends and family say he is on life support.

The 18-year-old played baseball for De La Salle High School. His team won the North Coast Section Division I title.

Abele had just started his freshman year at University of Nevada Reno.

He was walking down the stars at the frat house when he fell. Doctors say he suffered extensive bleeding on the right side of his brain and ruptured a main artery.

A GoFundMe crowdfunding account set up to help his family pay for Abele's emergency surgery raised more than $72,000.
