Former Baltimore WR Torrey Smith Reportedly Joining 49ers

(CBS SF) -- Free agent wide receiver Torrey Smith appears to be headed to the San Francisco 49ers, according to published reports.

ESPN and the Baltimore Sun reported Smith would sign with the 49ers a day after the former Baltimore Raven acknowledged his departure in a blog post thanking the team and its fans. Smith spent the last four seasons with the Ravens after being drafted out of Maryland.

Smith scored a career-high 11 touchdown last season and surpassed 1,000 yards receiving in 2013. He is expected to be the deep threat the 49ers have long sought, and a replacement for free agent Michael Crabtree who is believed to be looking to play elsewhere in 2015.

Smith would be reunited with former Raven teammate Anquan Boldin. Both players started at wide receiver for Baltimore against the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.
