Flooding Fears Force Evacuation Of 150 Campers In Morgan Hill

MORGAN HILL (CBS SF) -- More than 150 people were evacuated from a campground outside of Morgan Hill Sunday morning because of fears of flooding from a nearby creek.

Around 10:15 a.m., fire officials with Cal Fire received a report of possible flooding at the Thousand Trails campground, located at 12895 Uvas Road in unincorporated Santa Clara County, according to a fire dispatcher.

Water running through Uvas Creek, which runs through the campground, rose to as high as a bridge that is used to cross the creek, the dispatcher said.

All campers were evacuated and the American Red Cross is working with people who may need a place to stay.

As of 1 p.m., there was no estimated time for when the campers would be able to return, according to the dispatcher.
