100 Flight Cancellations, 360 Delays At SFO As Storm Hits Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CBS SF/AP) -- The wet, windy weather hitting the Bay Area Thursday has resulted in the cancellation of more than 100 flights at San Francisco International Airport.

Airport duty manager Brian Horne says another 360 flights have been delayed Thursday, from a few minutes to several hours.

Passengers are being urged to check with their airline for the most recent flight status updates, SFO spokesman Doug Yakel said.

National Weather Service officials have forecast up to 4 inches of rain in the North Bay and along coastal mountain ranges Thursday, with up to 1.5 inches elsewhere in the Bay Area. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph may be reported.

Rainfall is expected to be particularly hazardous in areas of Santa Clara and Monterey counties where the Loma and Soberanes fires burned earlier this year. The weather service said heavy rain could result in an increased threat of flash floods, debris flows and mudslides.
