Flaming Fireworks Tossed From Car Ignite Grass Fires On I-580 In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS) -- Police were looking for the suspects who threw fireworks from a car and started several small grass fires along Interstate 580 in Oakland Saturday morning.

The fires were first reported shortly after ten.

Witnesses said they saw a car with four men throwing fireworks out the window.

Fire crews put out about half a dozen small fires between Grand and 14th Avenue by about noon.
"That's a very dangerous thing to do," said Battalion Chief Greg Hunter of the Oakland Fire Department. "It's a felony."

Chief Hunter is asking the public to report any suspicious activity.

No one was injured, and no buildings were threatened or damaged.

Anyone with information about the suspects should call the highway patrol.
