Flame Broiled Burgers And Car At Hayward Burger King

HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- A car passing through the drive-thru of a Burger King in Hayward this afternoon caught fire, and the flames spread to the restaurant, a fire captain said.

The one-alarm fire was reported at 2:36 p.m. at the fast-food eatery at 29671 Mission Blvd., Hayward fire Capt. Don Nichelson said. It was extinguished by 2:47 p.m., he said.

The fire started in the car and spread through the drive-thru window, causing some damage. The restaurant was evacuated and remains closed this afternoon, Nichelson said.

The car's occupants were able to get out of the burning vehicle safely, he said. No injuries were reported.

The extent of damage to the restaurant is still being evaluated, he said.
