5 Wounded In Oakland Shootings

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A violent night and early morning on the streets of Oakland has left five people recovering from gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Four male victims were shot in the 1100 block of Mandela Parkway in West Oakland at 10:38 p.m., police said.

The victims -- a juvenile and three men who are 24, 29 and 34 years old -- were all hit in the lower body and taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Police haven't determined whether the victims know each other or what the motive for the shooting is.

Then at 1:15 a.m., another male victim was found assaulted with what appeared to be blunt force trauma in the 9700 block of Birch Street, near 98th Avenue in East Oakland. That victim was taken to a hospital with a critical brain injury.

Police have made no arrests and provided no description of any suspects in either incident.

Oakland homicide detectives are investigating the Birch Street incident.

Anyone with information about it has been asked to contact the Oakland police homicide section at (510) 238-3821 or the department's tip line at (510) 238-7950.
