Five Teens, The Youngest 14, Charged With Murder in San Jose Drive-By

SAN JOSE (CBS-SF)-- Five teens, ranging in age from 14 to 17, face murder charges in the drive-by death of a 20-year-old man in San Jose earlier this month.

Police say Juan Luna and another man were shot around 2 a.m. the morning of March 7th near the intersection of Oak Street and South Almaden Avenue. Luna later died at the hospital. The other victim survived. Investigators believe the killing was gang related.

Two days after the shooting, around 11 p.m., a patrol unit near Capitol Expressway and Story Road spotted the Ford Fusion witnesses had reported as the shooter's car. When officers tried to stop the car, the suspects fled. From there San Jose Police and the CHP followed in a high-speed chase covering 25 miles of Interstate 680. Along the way, cops say the suspects tossed a handgun out the window. All five teens inside the car surrendered only after their car blew a tire near Livermore.

Arrested were Jacob Lapenias, 17; Arturo Garcia-Laredo,14; Michael Anaya, 15; Thalia Ruiz, 16; and Jasmine Rosales, 17.

Friday prosecutors from the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office charged all five teens with murder with an added gang enhancement.  They will all be tried as adults.
