Five Rescued From Boats That Ran Aground Near Pittsburg Marina

PITTSBURG (CBS SF) — Fire crews helped rescue five people from two separate boats that ran aground in shallow water near the Pittsburg Marina Memorial Day weekend, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman said Monday.

The most recent incident happened on Sunday shortly before midnight after another boat had run aground in the same area on Saturday, fire district spokesman Robert Marshall said.

The U.S. Coast Guard had asked Contra Costa County fire crews for additional help along the Delta during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, Marshall said.

"Memorial Day weekend is a big boating weekend and they were worried about resources being stretched thin," he said.

No one was injured in either incident and fire crews were able to safely free the boats from the shallow water.
