Fisherman Wasn't Aboard When Distress Call Was Sent Near San Francisco's Ocean Beach
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Officials say a fisherman who sent out a distress call early Monday morning was not on board when his boat ran aground in San Francisco.
51-year-old Santa Cruz resident Timothy Lybrand made a call to other boaters asking for help, saying he was going to try to swim to shore wearing a life jacket.
His boat then ran aground at Ocean Beach, but crews were initially unable to get into the boat to see if he was trapped.
A search for Lybrand was suspended Monday afternoon and he is now listed as missing. He also has a $75,000 warrant out of Santa Clara County for failing to appear in court following a drug possession arrest.
Crews are continuing efforts to remove the boat. The removal is expected to last until Friday.
