Fireworks Spark At Least 5 Of 37 Fires Reported In Contra Costa County On Fourth Of July
MARTINEZ (CBS SF) - Fire crews in Contra Costa County responded to dozens of fires, at least some sparked by Fourth of July fireworks through the night and into Friday.
Thirty-seven fires were reported in a span of just six hours.
The fires were quickly put out because extra crews were brought on to work the holiday.
Six hours, 37 fires -- an extraordinary number for a weekday evening. Five of the 37 known to have resulted from fireworks, likely the majority and perhaps all. Thanks to preparation and rapid, overwhelming responses, none turned into disasters tonight. #ConFire4th pic.twitter.com/de1Y7OlPpY
