Firefighters Investigate 2-Alarm Carport Fire At San Jose Duplex

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Arson investigators were on on the scene where firefighters just knocked down a two-alarm fire in a carport at a duplex home on Weyburn Lane in San Jose Tuesday morning.

The first report of the  fire inside a carport  in the 1200 block of Weyburn Lane came in at 3:28 a.m., a dispatcher said. It then quickly spread to three vehicles. Firefighters called for a second alarm at 3:35 a.m., according to the dispatcher.

Fire Capt. Fernando Munoz told KCBS that most of the fire was knocked down by about 4 a.m. and firefighters were able to stop the flames before it reach any of the building.

"We took a really aggressive attack on fire and knocked it out pretty quickly," he said.

Munoz said it was a neighbor returning from a hospital that first reported the fire.

"He noticed a little smoke. He wasn't quite sure what he was seeing. Then he saw flames and that's when he said,'Oh my God, the car's on fire," Munoz said. "As soon as he hung up with 911, he knocked on all the doors and woke everybody up so got everybody out."

There have no report of any injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation but officials were not ready to call it suspicious.
