Firefighters Extinguish Blaze At San Rafael Safeway Store

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- Firefighters extinguished a fire late Monday at a Safeway store in San Rafael, fire officials said Tuesday.

Crews responded to the fire at 950 Las Gallinas Ave. at about 11:30 p.m., said Fire Chief Christopher Gray.

When crews arrived, a trailer at the store's loading dock was on fire and the fire was spreading to the building. Firefighters were able to halt the fire's progress before it reached the flammable and combustible materials inside the loading dock.

Fire officials said it appears the fire started in the trailer that was part of pressure washer being used in the store. The trailer and its contents were a total loss, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Marinwood Fire and San Rafael police provided assistance.
