3 Minor Injuries, 13 Displaced In 2-Alarm Sunset District Fire

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Three people, including a firefighter, suffered minor injuries and 13 people were displaced in a two-alarm fire involving two homes in San Francisco's Sunset District Monday morning, according to fire officials.

The fire at 1962 and 1966 35th Ave. streets was first reported shortly after 11 a.m. when an engine company doing a drill in the area observed the smoke, according to fire department spokesman Jonathan Baxter.

The fire appears to have started in the rear of 1966 35th Ave. and spread to the neighboring house, Baxter said. The fire's cause remains under investigation but it does not appear suspicious at this time, he said.

Two civilians who suffered minor burns in the fire were transported to Saint Francis Memorial Hospital for treatment. Baxter said it was unclear how they sustained the burns.

One firefighter also suffered a minor cut and was treated at the scene.

13 people in all were displaced from the two single-family homes, nine of them from 1966 35th Ave.

The damage to the building where the fire started was moderate to severe, while the damage to the other building was minor, Baxter said.

Fire officials reported the fire was under control shortly before noon.
