OAKLAND (KCBS) -- Firefighters are investigating a three-alarm warehouse fire in Oakland Monday morning that knocked out power for more than 5,700 PG&E customers, a fire official said.

The fire broke out at around 5 a.m. inside the Carpet Depot Warehouse at 10115 San Leandro Street, near Stone street.

The fire, which started at the warehouse, spread to other buildings.

"We had a report of an outside fire originally, The first arriving unit found the warehouse on fire; it quickly spread to a building adjacent and a house on Pippin," Oakland fire Battalion Chief Lisa Baker said.

Four residents from that house were evacuated. One fire suffered minor injuries and transported to the hospital.

"The power lines went down very quickly, so we had live power lines. So we're able to get as close as we wanted but we went defense immediately," Baker said.

PG&E crews arrived to the scene and turned off the lines.

The utility agency reported a power outage in the area of 98th and Edes avenues near the fire. Over 5,700 customers were without power, according a PG&E spokesperson.

About an hour later, utility crews restored power to more than half of those customers, but 2,679 remained without power as of shortly after
7:20 a.m.

It not yet known when power might be restored to the remaining customers.
