Firefighters Battle Brush Fire Near Former Site Of Candlestick Park

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco firefighters were battling a brush fire in the area of the former Candlestick Park on Tuesday evening, according to the fire department.

The fire was reported at 5:45 p.m. and has covered an area about 50 feet by 50 feet. High winds are driving it and it has sent a lot of smoke over the city, fire spokesman Jonathan Baxter said.

There are no structures burning and none are threatened. There is little in the area since Candlestick Park was recently demolished.

Candlestick Park, a former athletic stadium located in San Francisco's Bayview district, was demolished in 2015. Developers are planning to construct a shopping mall as well as housing and parking facilities at the stadium's former site.

The construction site is next to Candlestick Point State Recreation Area, located on the city's waterfront.
