Fire burns 75 acres near I-580 at Altamont Pass; CHP investigates possible arsons in area

California's wildfire risk map updated after 15 years

LIVERMORE – Crews are responding to a fire that has broken out along Interstate 580 near the Altamont Pass in eastern Alameda County Saturday morning. Meanwhile, authorities are investigating possible arsons along the highway.

Shortly after 7 a.m., authorities said firefighters were battling a fire next to the westbound lanes near Grant Line Road. Initial reports were that the fire burned 25 acres.

According to Cal Fire, the fire has burned 75 acres and is 85% contained as of 10:30 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol is also investigating several possible arson incidents in the area over an eight-mile stretch.

"Crews from the Alameda County Fire Department, the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, the California Department of Forestry, and CHP are working to extinguish multiple fires along the freeway and keep traffic moving," the Alameda County Fire Department tweeted around 9 a.m.

 Anyone who may have information about the fire is asked to call the CHP at 707-641-8300.

Saturday morning's fire near the Altamont Pass is the second in the area in less than 24 hours. On Friday evening, crews responded to a fire that burned along the eastbound direction of the freeway near Flynn Road. 

The fire burned more than 40 acres before it was fully contained late Friday night.
