1-Alarm Fire Damages Vallejo Restaurant

VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- A one-alarm fire damaged a restaurant and adjoining apartment in Vallejo Saturday afternoon, a Vallejo Fire Department official said.

Firefighters responded at about 2:30 p.m. to a report of a fire at 630 Broadway, fire Capt. Steve Smircich said.

People inside the building originally called to report heavy smoke inside, which they believed to be coming from construction workers operating nearby, Smircich said.

Once firefighters arrived on scene, fire personnel realized the fire was coming from inside a wall in the building, he said.

Smircich said firefighters were able to fully extinguish the blaze by 3:25 p.m., but not before they had to open the wall, causing an estimated $5,000 to $10,000 in damage.

No one reported any injuries, he said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
