Fire Burning Near Lawrence Expressway Shuts Interstate 280 in San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- The California Highway Patrol said early Saturday evening that Interstate 280 in San Jose had reopened after firefighters extinguished a fire in the area near the Lawrence Expressway.

Traffic in both directions was being diverted off the freeway at Lawrence Expressway. The CHP has issued a Sig-alert for the area.

The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m.

There were also reports of power lines down in the area.

By shortly before 5 p.m., 511.org was reporting that all lanes had reopened.

A Santa Clara police spokesperson said early Saturday evening that
the southbound lanes of the Lawrence Expressway reopened just before 6 p.m.

The area is close to the Santa Clara-San Jose city limits.
