Vehicles Damaged In 2-Alarm San Jose Carport Fire

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Firefighters managed to keep a two-alarm fire in an East San Jose carport from spreading to surrounding apartment buildings Monday afternoon, a fire captain said.

The fire was reported at 4:11 p.m. in a detached carport at an apartment building in the 200 block of Delia Street, fire Capt. Cleo Doss said.

Four cars, the carport and a fence burned but firefighters prevented it from spreading to the apartment building and other adjacent buildings, Doss said.

Firefighters remained on the scene shortly after the fire was declared knocked down at 5:57 p.m., Doss said, but were beginning to let residents back into the apartment building.

A hazardous materials crew was also called to prevent fluids that had leaked from the cars from going into storm drains, Doss said.

No one was injured.
