Fire Breaks Out At Chevron's Richmond Refinery

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- A small fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond was quickly extinguished Monday afternoon, a Chevron spokeswoman said.

The fire was reported in a steam boiler at the refinery at about 3 p.m., Chevron spokeswoman Melissa Ritchie said.

Lubricating oil going to the bearings of a fan ignited, causing the fire, Ritchie said. It was immediately extinguished with no impact beyond the refinery, she said.

No one was injured in the fire.

The Richmond Fire Department was called to the refinery as a precaution but their assistance wasn't needed, Ritchie said.
