Fire At Corte Madera Homeless Encampment Brought Under Control

CORTE MADERA (CBS SF) -- Firefighters brought a 3-acre vegetation fire at a homeless encampment site in Corte Madera under control early this morning, according to a fire chief.

The blaze was reported at about 10:46 p.m. on Thursday just east of the Village Shopping Mall in the marshland area near Redwood Highway and Tamalpais Drive, Corte Madera Fire Chief Roger Sprehn said.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control at about 12:52 a.m., Sprehn said.

The fire was contained to a 3-acre stretch of marshland that is reportedly the site of multiple homeless camps. The camps are being investigated as the possible starting place of the blaze, according to Sprehn.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, Sphren said.
