Fiery End For 2 Oakland Police SUV's After Weekend Crashes

OAKLAND (KPIX 5) -- Two Oakland police vehicles burned to the ground in separate incidents over the weekend.

The first vehicle caught fire after a police chase on I-580 late Saturday.

An Oakland police officer was chasing a carjacking suspect when the officer slammed his SUV into a pole near the High Street exit while trying to avoid another car.

The SUV burst into flames, but the officer was able to escape.

Other officers caught up with the suspect, and arrested him.

The second incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Sunday when one police car crashed into another while chasing a suspect on 38th Avenue.
