Female Inmate Dies In Sacramento Jail

SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) — Officials say a female inmate found unconscious at the Sacramento County Main Jail later died at a hospital.

Sacramento sheriff's spokesman Deputy Tony Turnbull says in a news release that the 48-year-old inmate was found unresponsive Sunday morning. Deputies immediately notified emergency medical personnel then attempted lifesaving measures.

The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/1MwjfZU) the inmate was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. Jail officials said they saw no signs of trauma on the body and do not suspect foul play.

Turnbull says the inmate had been held since May on charges of attempted murder, aggravated mayhem and elder abuse. Her name was not released pending notification of family by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.
