Feinstein Meets With Nominee Garland, Says He's The Right Man

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- California Senator Dianne Feinstein of San Francisco met Wednesday with US Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland, and said he's the right man for the time.

Feinstein has met with seven previous nominees and said Garland is the only judge who she hasn't heard criticized.   He has met with senators in both parties in recent days.

"I hope very much, that my colleagues of the opposition party, the party in power in this house, will do this institution the credit of sitting down, and meeting with him," Feinstein said.

Feinstein sits on the Judiciary Committee, which would be the place for hearings on a Supreme Court nominee.

California's other Senator, Barbara Boxer, plans to meet with Garland soon.   Boxer retires from the Senate at the end of the year.
