Father Turns In 20-Year-Old Son For Allegedly Robbing A San Mateo Bank

SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- A 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly robbing a bank in San Mateo last week, police and prosecutors said.

Mohannad Thaher Shehadeh, pleaded not guilty Friday to robbing a Wells Fargo Bank at 2950 S. El Camino Real in San Mateo at about 5:20 p.m. on Dec. 22, according to police and the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors said Shehadeh allegedly walked into the bank and handed a teller a note stating, "I have a gun, give me all the money in the drawer."

The teller was complying when another teller came over, prompting the suspect to grab the money and flee the bank.

San Mateo police on Tuesday released a surveillance image of the suspect and Shehadeh's father called police to identify his son, who lives across the street from the bank. The father cited his son's possible drug addiction and concern for his safety, prosecutors said.

Shehadeh entered his not guilty plea in court in Redwood City on Friday and will return to court on Jan. 6 for a preliminary hearing. He remains in custody on $50,000 bail, prosecutors said.
