Teen Skydiver Killed In Lodi Jump Was Working On Bucket List, Mom Says
LODI, San Joaquin County (CBS / AP) – The mother of one of two skydivers killed when their parachute failed to open says the jump was on the 18-year-old's bucket list of things to do in life.
Francine Salazar says her son Tyler Turner was born with a mild case of cerebral palsy and walked with a crouched gait, but he never let his condition deter him. She said Monday he was an adventurous spirit who was always willing to give something a try.
The recent high school graduate was headed for the University of California at Merced this month to study biomedical engineering. He hoped to find a cure for cerebral palsy.
An instructor strapped to Turner also died Saturday after they plunged into a vineyard in Lodi, 85 miles east of San Francisco. San Joaquin County sheriff's officials haven't identified the instructor.
