Police Investigate Death Of Man Shot Multiple Times On Salinas Sidewalk

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- Police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old man who shot multiple times Saturday night in Salinas.

At around 9:10 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Atlantic Street for a report that a man had been shot, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to Natividad Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, according to police.

Police believe the victim, who lives in the area, was walking on the sidewalk when unknown suspects approached him and fired several shots, striking him.

Although there were several people in the area, no witnesses have come forward, according to police.

Police are withholding the victim's identity until the next of kin is notified.
