1 Dies, Another Hurt In Crash On I-880 Near Oakland Coliseum

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- All lanes of northbound Interstate Highway 880 in East Oakland were cleared following a fatal traffic collision Sunday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.

The two-vehicle crash was reported at about 3:10 p.m., north of the Hegenberger Road on-ramp and just south of the Oakland Coliseum.

One person died at the scene and another person was injured and was transported to a hospital, according to the CHP.

The CHP is investigating reports that a person attempted to flee the scene on foot following the crash.

A Sig-alert was issued shortly after 3:30 p.m. and canceled at about 5:15 p.m., according to the CHP.

The identity of the person killed has not been released and the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
