Man Arrested For Suspicion Of DUI After Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash In Fremont

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- A Newark man was arrested after fleeing from the scene of a fatal crash in Fremont Sunday evening.

Juan Martinez, 47, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence following the collision that shut down a stretch of Central Ave. around 6:17 p.m. Sunday, the Fremont Police Department said.

Martinez was identified as the driver of a minivan which collided with a Honda Civic. He fled the scene on foot after the crash, but was located and taken into custody by officers in a nearby neighborhood, police said.

A passenger in the Civic died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Central was closed between Blacow Rd. and Southwood Dr. for several hours, police said.
