Woman Critically Injured By Broken Bat At Athletics-Red Sox Game
BOSTON (CBS SF) -- A woman watching the game between the Oakland A's and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park Friday evening was severely hurt by a broken bat that flew into the stands.
According to The Boston Globe, the woman suffered life threatening injuries.
It happened during the top of the second inning when A's second baseman Brett Lawrie hit a ball that broke his bat near the handle. The follow-through sent the broken barrel zooming into the stands just behind the Red Sox dugout.
Witnesses tweeted the woman was hit in the face by bat.
Lady struck in face by piece of broken bat. Bleeding heavily so being taken for medical attention thru field. Game in delay.

The game was stopped in before the start of the bottom of the second inning as emergency personnel treated the woman. She was heard screaming in pain as medical staff tended to her and wheeled her away on a stretcher.

The woman was reportedly attending the game with her husband and son when she was hit.
