2 Critically Injured In Fairfield Shooting

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- Two people were shot in Fairfield early Monday evening and a possible suspect was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit, police said.

Gunshots and a traffic collision were reported at 5:03 p.m. near Clay Bank Road and Sanderling Drive, according to police.

Officers found one shooting victim near Clay Bank Road and Irving Court and another on Meadowlark Drive, police said. Both were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A resident on Sanderling just east of the crime scene then reported a man was hiding in her backyard, police said.

Officers chased the man through backyards as he jumped over fences trying to get away. He was eventually caught in the 2100 block of Allston Place, police said.

Investigators haven't yet determined what his involvement may have been in the shooting.
