Man Arrested For Hit-And-Run That Injured Fairfield 5-Year-Old

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) – Fairfield police Tuesday morning arrested a 19-year-old man in a hit-and-run that injured a 5-year-old child on Monday afternoon, a police officer said.

The child suffered severe injuries when he was struck by a brown or gold four-door sedan around 4:45 p.m. in the middle of San Marco Street, police said.

The driver fled west on San Marco Street and then south on Kidder Avenue, police said.

Police found a similar vehicle that was recorded on a surveillance camera in the area. Officers searched the area and found the suspected hit-and-run vehicle parked in an alley in the 700 block of Delaware Street.

Police arrested Jefferson Tara, 19, of Fairfield, around 9 a.m. Tuesday on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injury.

The child who was struck remains in stable condition at a hospital and is expected to survive, police said.
