Ex-Tenants Sue Over Deadly SF Mission District Building Fire
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) — Dozens of former tenants are suing the owners of a San Francisco building that was the scene of a deadly January fire.
The San Francisco Chronicle says a suit filed Wednesday in Superior Court alleges negligence, unfair business practices and willful disregard of tenants' rights.
It was filed on behalf of 47 people who lived in the Mission District building, which housed apartments, offices, shops and a market.
It's the third suit filed over the Jan. 28 blaze that left one man dead and 58 people homeless.
Fire inspectors say an electrical problem probably caused the blaze.
The suit contends the owners failed to perform maintenance and inspections on the century-old building that could sell for $20 million and be replaced with new market rate housing.
The Chronicle says owner Hawk Lou declined to comment on Thursday.
