Eucalyptus Tree Takes Out Power Lines, Blocks Access To Homes In Berkeley

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- A large eucalyptus tree took out power lines, causing an outage to hundreds of homes in Berkeley during Tuesday morning's rainstorm, PG&E said.

The tree crashed down on Panoramic Way near Prospect Street around 9 a.m.

The tree was blocking access to an estimated 50 to 60 homes, causing access issues for crews working to restore power to the homes. PG&E said it hoped to have power back by noon Wednesday.

PG&E was working with the Berkeley fire department to escort residents to homes in the affected area, and had set up a staging area at the UC Stadium South Concourse.
