Escaped Jail Inmate Missing For Over 2 Weeks Found At Homeless Encampment Near Rohnert Park

(CBS SF) -- A minimum-security jail inmate who walked away from a work crew in Santa Rosa earlier this week has been located and arrested, Sonoma County sheriff's officials said Thursday.

Deputies arrested Michael Gentuso, 38, of Santa Rosa, at a homeless encampment near Rohnert Park on Wednesday night, according to the sheriff's office.

Gentuso walked away from a work crew at about 7:45 a.m. Monday in the area of West Steele Lane and Cleveland Avenue in Santa Rosa, where he discarded his denim North County Detention Facility uniform, sheriff's officials said.

He had been booked into jail on Dec. 23, was convicted last week for possession of a controlled substance and was serving a 90-day sentence.

Sheriff's officials said walking away from a work crew is considered a felony.

Gentuso was booked back into county jail, where he is being held without bail, according to the sheriff's office.
